Your next customer is asking an AI who to hire.
"Best kitchen renovation contractor in Oakville." "Who should I list my house with in Burlington?" Those questions increasingly go to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI answers — and they come back with a short list of three or four names, not ten blue links.
Being one of those names is a different technical problem from ranking on Google. Almost no local business in this market is built for it yet.
Ranking on Google is a race you started ten years after everyone else. AI search is one that started last year — and the sites that get cited are the ones that are technically readable, specific and structured.
In eighteen months every agency will sell this. Right now, in Halton, you can be early.
We are not guessing at this. We built it into our own sites first, before we sold it to a single client.
Answer engine optimization, without the mystique.
An AI assistant doesn't browse. It reads pages, extracts facts, and decides whether it trusts them enough to repeat. Everything below is about making that easy.
Be machine-readable in the first place
Fast, clean, server-rendered HTML. A page built in a drag-and-drop builder ships a shell of JavaScript that assembles itself in the browser — a crawler that doesn't execute it sees almost nothing. This is why we build static, and it's why most competitors' sites are structurally excluded from the answer before the content is even considered.
Structured data on every page
JSON-LD that states in machine terms who you are, what you do, where you do it, what it costs, who runs the business and what people asked you. This is how a model knows you're a roofing contractor in Milton and not a blog about roofs.
Answer-first writing
Lead with the answer, then explain it. Marketing copy that circles the point for three paragraphs before saying anything useful is invisible to an extraction model — and, as it happens, to human beings on a phone.
Specific, checkable facts
Real price ranges. Named service areas. Actual timelines. Genuine limits on what you'll take on. Models favour content that commits to something — and vague copy is exactly what everyone else publishes, which is why there's room.
Consistency everywhere you appear
Your name, address, phone and services identical on the site, the Google Business Profile, directories and social. Contradictions across sources make a model less confident about repeating any of it.
Let the crawlers in — on purpose
A crawler policy that explicitly welcomes GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and the rest, plus an llms.txt summarising the business in plain language. Plenty of sites block these by accident, through a default setting nobody reviewed.
Local SEO still pays the bills.
AI search is the opening. Local search is the volume. The same foundations serve both, which is why we don't sell them separately.
Google Business Profile
For a local trade this frequently outperforms the website. Correct categories, every service listed, real job photos posted regularly, questions answered, service area set properly. Most profiles we look at are about 40% filled in.
Reviews as a ranking signal
Volume, recency and how you respond all feed local ranking — and no amount of technical work compensates for eleven reviews against a competitor's hundred and eighty. See the review engine.
Pages that match how people search
One page per service, one per area you actually serve. "Bathroom renovation in Milton" is a different page from "kitchen renovation in Oakville," and a single Services page listing everything ranks for none of it.
Content that answers real questions
Cost guides, "how long does it take," "what permits do I need," "should I sell before I buy." Content that answers a real question is the same content an AI will quote and a customer will read before calling.
Technical health
Speed, mobile behaviour, indexation, internal linking, no broken pages. Unglamorous, and the reason a lot of otherwise good sites sit invisible.
Honest measurement
We report on calls, forms and booked work — not on "keywords in the top 100." Rankings are a means. Anyone showing you a ranking report instead of a lead report is hiding something.
What nobody can promise you
There is no way to guarantee a placement in an AI answer, and there is no way to buy one. What is entirely within our control is whether your site is technically capable of being read, understood and cited — and today, for the large majority of contractor and agent websites in this region, it isn't. That's the work.
About search.
How long does search work take?
Google Business Profile improvements can show within weeks. Site-level search results are a four-to-nine month build, and they compound after that. If you need work in the next thirty days, spend on ads instead — we'll say so rather than sell you a slower thing.
Is this different from what an SEO company sells?
The local SEO part is similar, though we report on leads rather than rankings. The AI search part is genuinely different work: structured data, extractable writing, crawler policy and factual specificity. Most SEO retainers in this market are still built entirely around Google's blue links.
Do I need this if I'm already busy?
It's the best time to build it, because it takes months and you're not desperate. The businesses that struggle are the ones that start marketing the month the phone goes quiet.
Does it work if my website is somewhere else?
Partly. We can improve structured data, content and the Google profile on most platforms. But if the site is a slow page-builder build that crawlers can barely read, we're working against the foundation — and we'll tell you when the honest recommendation is to rebuild it first.
